Our Focus
The focus of the APCCP is on promoting and facilitating evidence - based policies that address behaviours associated with chronic disease risk including:
- Healthy Eating
- Physical Activity
- Alcohol Related Harm
- Tobacco Reduction
Settings in which the APCCP focuses its efforts are:
- Schools
- Workplaces
- Communities and Municipalities
Why Policy?
We recognize that while behaviours such as unhealthy eating, physical inactivity, tobacco and alcohol use increase the risk for developing many chronic diseases, these behaviours do not occur in isolation. For Albertans, our social and physical environment(s) in schools, workplaces and communities can often create barriers to making healthy choices.
The APCCP believes public policy can be a valuable strategy for policy-and-decision makers to use in the fight against chronic disease. Public policies that support opportunities for Albertans to have access to healtheir foods and active transportation are just some of the examples of how government action can work to improve the health of all Albertans, including the most vulnerable members of society and reduce the risk of chronic disease.
Our Goal
- Raise awareness and advocate in support of policies which promote a healthier Alberta
